could i remove my iPod shuffle volume control unit and splice it to another pair of headphones?

I made the mistake of buying a new shuffle as a quick fix for a broken iPod touch, to my dismay there's no way to use my good earphones/headphones with this unit without an adapter that future shop AND best buy are sold out of.

honestly no because 1st i tried it, and 2nd the plug has special stuff that allows support for it.
