High pitch squeal while driving?
I noticed the other day that when i get to a speed of about 15-20 MPH that a high pitch squeal is coming from my wheels (Like if the brakes wear indicator is hitting the rotor). I have completely replaced the brake calipers and the driver side brake line. The sound does go away at about 45 MPH. This problem is also occurring on my fathers vehicle.
My car: 1992 Olds cutlass ciera SL 3.3l V6, 142K miles
My dads: 1994 Dodge grand caravan le 3.3l V6, 203K miles
we replaced his brake pads about 3 months ago.
Regards,
Howard
The belt on my fathers van is brand new (it broke about 5 months ago). The sound is also only present when actually driving both vehicles. IE at idle there is not sound at all, the engines both sound good. Both of my brake calipers are new and they dont seem to be stuck.
Try a can of belt dressing. Spray it on the drive belts. They have a squeal to them to sometimes. At worst it is only about $5 a spray can.
The indicator rotor is supposed to only go off when the brakes are being used. Are your calipers frozen so the brakes are always on? When you pick up the belt dressing buy a can of brake parts cleaner. Jack the car up, take the tires off an spray the complete calipers and rotors. The put the rires back on and drive the car slowly pumping the brakes to free the stuck rotor.
